\nWe offer high quality scion wood at $5\/stick (8 inches). Quantities of some varieties are limited. Scion wood will be carefully labeled and shipped early spring, late March to early April depending on Spring weather. Call or email for clarification about shipping times. Minimum shipping cost is $10. Because of quarantines and\/or distance we do not ship to the states of\u00a0 Hawaii, Florida, California, Alaska, Oregon and Washington.<\/p>\n

In 2025<\/span> our chestnut trees put all their energy into nut production and almost no energy into scionwood production. We had a great crop of nuts, but very little scionwood to offer.<\/p>\n

\nArbor Laedi\u2014<\/strong>Reliable, very heavy bearer of large\/extra-large nuts, unique to Red Fern Farm. (Not available 2026)
\nAsp<\/strong>\u2014Precocious, reliable, heavy bearer of medium-sized nuts, unique to Red Fern Farm. (Not available 2026)
\nAuburn Super<\/strong>\u2014Extremely large nuts, heavy bearing, sometimes overbears, excellent flavor. (Not available 2026)
\nBlondie<\/strong>\u2014Luvalls Monster seedling, produces extra-large, attractive nuts of a light\u00a0 brown color. Unique to Red Fern Farm. (Not available 2026)
\nChateau Rouge\u2014<\/strong>Seedling of Gideon, sibling of Iowa Golden, also had a normal nut crop in 2020 following a late frost that ruined the crop on other trees.
\nGiant Badger I\u2014<\/strong> Extra cold-hardy Chinese X American hybrid from Minnesota that produces extra-large nuts, up to 24 grams. Pollen fertile. (Not available 2026)
\nGiant Badger II\u2014<\/strong> Extra cold-hardy Chinese X American hybrid from Minnesota that produces extra-large nuts, up to 24 grams. Pollen sterile. (Not available 2026)

\nIowa Golden\u2014<\/strong>Seedling of Gideon, this tree had a normal crop of nuts in 2020 when most trees had no crop due to a late frost. (Not available 2026)
\nKen<\/strong>\u2014(J X E) X Chinese hybrid.\u00a0 A seedling of either Precoce Migoule or Bouche de Betizac, crossed with unknown Chinese cultivar. This seedling is very vigorous and fast growing . It is a reliable, very heavy bearer of extra-large Chinese type nuts. Unique to Red Fern Farm.
\nMark\u2014<\/strong>This superior pure Chinese seedling is a reliable heavy bearer of large nuts. Mark was selected and developed at Red Fern Farm where it has been earning a lot of money for many years. (Not available 2026)
\nMike\u2014<\/strong>This superior pure Chinese seedling of Auburn Super is very vigorous and is a reliable heavy bearer of large to extra-large nuts. Mike was selected and developed at Red Fern Farm.
\nMossbarger<\/strong>\u2014Large nuts, heavy bearing, precocious, extra cold-hardy.
\nPeach<\/strong>\u2014One of Greg Millers’ (president of the Chestnut Growers of America and founder of Empire Chestnuts) very best selections. It is a reliable bearer of extra-large nuts. This is one of the few varieties that never over-bears. The nuts are fuzzy like a peach, thus the name. (Not available 2026)<\/span>
\nQing<\/strong>\u2014(pronounced \u201cching\u201d) is currently the standard for comparison among Chinese chestnuts. It produces an extra-large nut with a dark mahogany color, an unusually glossy luster, and exceptional flavor and keeping qualities. Cold hardy to at least -30\u00b0F, zone 5a.<\/span>

Resilient – The resilient Chinese chestnut seedling that bore a full crop of nuts despite adverse weather.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Resilient<\/strong>\u2014A reliable heavy bearer of large nuts, this really stood out in 2019 as the only tree out of about 1200, to bear a full, normal crop.\u00a0 Only 2% of the other trees had any nuts at all, and then only handful per tree.
\nShotgun<\/strong>\u2014Large nuts when it doesn\u2019t over-bear, heavy bearing, precocious. (Not available 2026)
\nSleeping Giant<\/strong>\u2014 An older cultivar selected by Dick Jaynes in Connecticut. Although it is a complex hybrid, its characteristics are very Chinese-like, and its offspring are consistently Chinese-like and of reliable quality.
